NCS Colour Tolerance Guides
Ikea uses NCS to identify its corporate blue NCS S 4550-R80B and yellow NCS S 1070-Y10R.
The colour tolerance guide enables easy visual checking for colour accuracy. The colour in the centre of each sheet is the standard (which might not start life as an NCS colour), which has a square aperture on either side. This allows the colour presented to be judged against the standard and against acceptable variation of hue, blackness and chromaticness.
When you know that colours can vary in six directions from the original it is much easier to understand colour differences and to communicate these differences in everyday language. A colour might be either side of the target hue, either more or less black and more or less chromatic. Prior to making colour tolerance guides there will be agreement on the acceptable variation from the target colour. This will be part of a Colour Management project carried out by CAPQ.
